Bomen Strategic Master Plan

Wagga Wagga City Council's Bomen Strategic Master Plan focuses on the growth of the Bomen Business Park while taking advantage of its geography to promote industry interests in logistics, distribution and transport operations.

The Bomen Master Plan is a highly strategic document for Council. It looks at Bomen as both Regional and State - significant for economic development because of it's location and its geography, being halfway between Sydney and Melbourne with the Great Southern Railway line running down the middle of the estate. The Bomen Business Park has the potential to be the South Eastern Australian logistics centre.

More than 50 businesses (local, national and multinational) employing 1350 people have established their factories and distribution outlets in the Park including Cargil foods Australia (a major export abattoir), Southern Oil Refinery, Austrak, Renewed Metal Technologies and meat products exporter, Heinz-Watties.

The Park is ideally located on the main southern railway line. Add the availability of cheap, easy to develop land and the Park becomes an attractive proposition for companies looking at servicing the major metropolitan markets and ports.

Many millions of dollars worth of infrastructure have been spent to cater for industries wishing to relocate to the Park.

Wagga Wagga Aiport Master Plan

In order to enable further logical growth at Wagga Wagga Airport and allow it to become 'a centre of aviation significance' and for the City of Wagga Wagga to be recognised as 'a world-class aviation education and training city', a Master Plan is under development for the Wagga Wagga Airport. The Draft Airport Master Plan is expected to go on public exhibition during the first quarter of 2010.

The Master Plan will promote the further growth of the Airport, and help realise its full potential as a mojor aeronautical infrastructure and commercial hub, and as a key element in the ongoing success of Wagga Wagga's growing economy. The Wagga Wagga Airport Master Plan will form the basis for the following:

  • Idetification and prioritisation of the core functions of the Airport

  • A strategic framework to facilitate planned and scheduled growth and development of the Airport in the future

  • Integrated planning of both aviation and non-aviation activity, land and commercial development, environmental management and surface transportation

  • A planning framework for Airport stakeholders to use in their own planning processes

  • A development strategy to enable the continued safe operation of the Airport in a financially responsible and sustainable manner

  • Identification of commercial and revenue generating activites at the Airport including opportunities to develop a cluster of aviation based commercial activites

  • Transport options between the City and the Airport including the capacity and appropriateness of the current public road network to support future needs

Retail Growth Strategy

The Wagga Wagga City Council is currently in the process of preparing a Retail Growth Strategy to guide and support the development and sustainability of the City's retail sector.

The Council is particulary interested in engaging the retail sector through effective consultation to generate a retail strategy which achieves  balance between an economic based approach and a focus on sense of place and capacity building.

The strategy will also clearly identify the retail hierachy and mix in Wagga Wagga and provide the basis for strengthening the different retail characters present in the retail sector in order to capture an increasing share of retail expenditure.
